Sands was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala westbound when he attempted to make a left turn onto Lincoln Avenue SE, colliding with a 2020 Dodge Ram 2500 traveling eastbound.
The Dodge Ram was operated by 48-year-old Kevin James Lenzen of St. Cloud. Despite the airbags deploying in both vehicles and both drivers wearing seat belts, Sands tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Lenzen sustained injuries as well but did not require hospitalization for his non-life-threatening conditions. First responders from the St. Cloud police and fire departments, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, and Mayo Ambulance Services were dispatched to assist.
