A tragic car accident on October 12 claimed the lives of fourth-grade student Daniella “Dana” Choquette and her parents, Mercy and Sasha Choquette. The family was traveling on the 15 Freeway en route to Las Vegas when the single-car accident occurred, sending shockwaves through their community and beyond.
In a heartfelt statement issued to parents and staff on Tuesday, McKinley Principal Daniela Weiner expressed the profound grief felt by the school following the loss of this beloved family. She conveyed condolences to Sasha Choquette’s surviving daughter, reassuring her that the McKinley community is here to support her during this incredibly difficult time.
Dana was remembered as a bright and charismatic student with a friendly disposition who made many friends. Principal Weiner praised her artistic talents, especially highlighting Dana’s efforts in a recent student council campaign. “In true form, she went above and beyond by creating not one, but three campaign posters,” Weiner noted. “She was incredibly sweet, always willing to help, and both she and her parents frequently donated to the classroom. They truly cared. Dana’s presence, kindness, and generosity will always be remembered. We will miss her greatly.”
