She enjoyed fast-paced urban life but found equal happiness running barefoot on her grandparents’ farm, always carrying an unmistakable zest for life.
After graduating from Ole Miss, Jodie relocated to Nashville, where she built a family and quickly became a cherished figure in the community. She began her professional journey as a high school English teacher at Franklin Road Academy, impacting the lives of countless students. Many of them fondly reconnected with her later in life, crediting her mentorship for shaping their futures.
Jodie’s entrepreneurial spirit shined brightly when she launched “Let’s Play House,” a business named after her daughter’s love of playing house. This endeavor eventually led her to the luxury real estate market in Nashville, where she thrived. Over the years, Jodie received numerous accolades, including Platinum and Sapphire Level Awards of Excellence and recognition as one of the Top 25 Agents in Middle Tennessee by the Nashville Business Journal. Her column, “News from the Homefront”, redefined real estate reporting, blending wit and insight in a way that resonated deeply with readers.
Beyond her professional success, Jodie was known for her athletic ability and passion for fitness. She could often be found running the 5.8-mile loop at Percy Warner Park, even while pushing a stroller with two babies. Her beauty, grace, and strength were admired by many, and she served on the board of the YMCA, embodying her love for physical and mental wellness.
Jodie’s life was a beautiful blend of spiritual faith, music, dance, and creativity. She was a devoted mother to her two daughters, a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her hugs were legendary, and her laughter had the magical ability to bring joy to everyone around her.
In her later years, Jodie started “Flying with Heels On,” a brand designed to help newly divorced women reclaim financial independence. Her work empowered many to navigate life’s challenges with grace and resilience. Her family encourages attendees of her upcoming service to wear heels in her honor—a fitting tribute to Jodie’s spirited approach to life.

Jodie is predeceased by her beloved grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. LT Barringer and Dr. and Mrs. Harry J. Guffee. She is survived by her parents, Betty Jane and Johnny Barringer, her daughters Libby McLellan (Lee) and Leila Smith, her brother Johnny (Laurie), nephew Johnathan, and niece Carly.
